Airport to somewhere?

February 3rd, 2009, 2:07 pm · 13 Comments · posted by mcazalas

Here I go again, plucking the nugget of good news from the bad and getting worked up about  it.

Atlantic Southeast Airlines is adding a weekly flight to Cincinnati this month.

The story was on the bottom, left-hand page of A-1 Tuesday, tucked underneath “Gunfire erupts in Fountain,” which was just below “Appraiser wins VAB lawsuit.”

So what? Here’s what: We are adding a flight out of Panama City. And it is going to Cincinnati, home of George Clooney, who you just might run into if you fly there.

George Cooney, famous Cincinattian

For today I accept that as good news. We are not losing a flight, we are gaining one. It’s not daily, but it’s better than monthly.

It goes into the “plus” column.

Will our new airport survive? Whether you were for it or not, you best hope it does.

The folks who wish failure upon it just so they can say they were right are probably the same ones who hope President Obama fails to lead us  out of this economic mess so they can crow about voting for McCain.

I, for one, welcome the bit of good news.

How about you?

Cincinatti is supposed to have good chilli. Oh, and they had a T.V. show about some disc jockeys back in the day (WKRP for all those youngsters whose time it came before). Um, other than that I can’t think of anything that would make locals want to go there (short of family and a chance to see George of course).
I don’t want the new airport to fail. I hope it does everything they say it will as far as bring people and jobs to Bay Co. I also hoped Santa was real many many moons ago. I hope this turns out better.

Although I have no plans to go to Cincinatti, I’m sure there are plenty of folks in NW FL who do have.. Any additions to the flight schedules are a plus.

WCRAP - Airport Authority Radio Station. I am happy with the notion so I won’t rock the boat with doom and gloom. But I think Okalossa beat us to the punch with the direct flights from Canada. But again, with the ever changing vision who knew Ohio was a target market. Sure wish there was spell check on comments.

I remember WKRP in Cincinnati! Great show for its time. Les Nessman, fearless newsman, was my favorite.
“As God is my witness, I thought turkies could fly!”

CAZ–I bet the flight won’t go all the way to Cincinnati. Our airport people are so naive they probably let ASA sell them on the idea of a flight to Kentucky instead. When our new airport opens how much would you like to bet it will probably have non-stops from “West Bay to Northern Kentucky” but nothing from “Panama City to Cincinnati?”

I avoid flying at ALL cost. I know it is safer but still try hard to not fly. So a new flight would never affect me. However any movement forward beats sitting still or moving backward. I hope the best for everything. Anyone who hopes to see something to fail in order to prove they were right is just wrong.
I’m afraid to admit I am old enough to remember WKRP in Cincinnati (It was a great show).

Unless the cost of the flight to Cincy is a LOT less than $1000 they can keep it and I will continue to go to Tallahassee when I need to go home. I can afford $259 plus the cost of gas to drive to the Tallahassee airport. I can’t afford the price of air travel from Panama City to ANYWHERE.

  • Kathy says:

Caz do a comparision piece on the cost of air travel from Panama City, Tallhassee, and Pensacola. We want to know which is the cheapest departure.

  • Kathy says:

Cincinnati’s airport is in north Kentucky right over the river. Cincinnati has NEVER had an airport within the city or the state for that matter. So there will never be a flight from Panama City, to Cincinnati but there will be one from Panama City to Greater Cincinnati Airport in Kentucky.

The Knight Family Sector plan and it’s developers are very interested in the new airport location. They own land in Bay and Washington counties just north of Panama City, Beach. This long term planning by the Knight Family and it’s developers should enhance the airports traffic in the near future. Over 50,000 acres of undeveloped property. Upon the final move of the airport, ASA might add flights that are important to this area.
